Yesterday was the 25th, and there wasn't time at school to do a Keep Christmas in Your Heart All Year activity, but I read Partners (Hill, G. L., 1940) last week.
In the winter, right before Christmas, George and Dale discover an abandoned baby in the foyer of their rooming house. By the end of the story, they've married and adopted the baby to raise together.
One afternoon, Dale fixes soup, salad, one cracker and a wedge of cheese for lunch, with a chocolate peppermint for dessert. While watching the baby, she made a quick breakfast of toast and scrambled eggs for the nurse. They had vegetable soup one evening when George brought her wedding ring. All very cosy, wintery foods.
In the last chapter, George retells the Christmas story for the baby then finishes with John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
