The Obsession of Victoria Gracen (Hill, GL, 1927) Part 2

This story spans two seasons, autumn and winter with beautiful descriptions of each.  Richard's first breakfast in his new home consisted of oatmeal with cream, beefsteak, fried potatoes and corncakes with maple syrup.  When Miss Bypath visited for tea there were rolled sandwiches of brown and white bread and almond cakes.  Victoria offered cream or lemon for the tea.
To help entertain her boys, Victoria learned about football, canoeing and hiking.  They enjoyed a picnic on a flat rock with chicken sandwiches, stuffed eggs, potato salad and baked beans.  Rebecca tucked olives, cheese, crackers and grapes inside also.  And for dessert, peach turnovers, sugar cookies, cup-custards, gingerbread and sponge cake.  That evening, there was roasted veal with stuffing and gravy, then Indian pudding and whipped cream for dessert.
