Jan Brett is my favorite author/ illustrator.  I love the details in her illustrations, how you can use the pages' borders to predict what's coming next and looking for Hedgie.  I read her books aloud in class all year, but we had a short themed author study when she was chosen December's author for the Kid's Virtual book club.
We read Gingerbread Friends and Gingerbread Baby  (note to self: read Baby first next year) then made gingerbread girls and boys from a kit to decorate our classroom tree.

  I waited 'til they left for home to space everybody out evenly on the tree.
