Ladybird (Hill, GL, 1930), Part 1
A springtime story, set in the desert. After her mom passed away, while waiting to make her escape, Fraley fixed dinner for the men. She started coffee, put on salt meat, (maybe bacon or ham?) fried potatoes, mixed up corn bread and fried eggs in with the meat.
During her frightening getaway, Fraley repeated to herself,
"He knows the way I take." Job 23:10 NIV
then after awakening in the desert she remembered,
"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8 NIV
After getting a lift from a friendly mom, she enjoyed corn cakes with molasses, stew and milk at her ranch. The family ate on tin plates, while Fraley had a nicked, thick white one because she was company.
