make, share

Get ready.  This is the extent of my sewing this week.
Don't blink, you might miss it.
Seriously, all I made was the binding for my Hazel Ilene's Diary quilt.  I finally decided on the applique I want to put in the borders- big circles, just like this inspiration fabric.  Still loving it, a year and a half later.
Fiesta Friday
Something about this time of year makes me super nostalgic- end of summer?  back to school?  I don't know, but this orange plate goes perfectly with the colors of the peaches on this can, in which I planted pretty orangey-yellow mums.  It's so hard to cut back the pretty flowers, but totally worth it the next day, when even prettier flowers take their place.
Why a peach can you may ask?
My grandmother passed away two years before my grandfather.  He was sad and lonely and really missed her cooking.  One day he told me, "Arlene would take a can of Raggedy Ripes and make..." something he really liked.  I'd never heard of Raggedy Ripes, but when we moved to Kentucky, our little local grocery store had them right out front!  I don't shop there often, but when I do, I can't leave without a can of Raggedy Ripes.  My mom and I have a simple cobbler recipe that works perfectly with them.  And here I am getting teary-eyed again, over a can of peaches.

Sometimes there just isn't enough time in the day.....your binding looks so cute! Loved the story about the Raggedy Ripes and your grandfather.
